Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist)

The Department of Toxic Substances Control is seeking highly motivated candidates for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) opening in the Office of Performance Management and Program Review (PMPR).
What You'll Do
- Oversee special projects that will vary in the level of complexity
- Serve as the lead for implementation and development of the DTSC strategic plan
- Manage the annual review and prioritization of DTSC's strategic plan project portfolio
- Provide technical consultation to DTSC programs relating to policy issues and organizational development and management initiatives
- Serve as a lead to a multidisciplinary team on the development and operation of DTSC’s performance management system
- Serve as a mentor for PMPR to new, less experienced or lower-level staff
What We Look For
- Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Two years of experience in the California state civil service performing the duties of an Environmental Scientist, Range C.
or
- Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience as a scientist in environmental analysis, research, management, planning, regulation, or investigation, two years of which have included responsibility in the development or implementation of environmental policies, programs, plans, or research projects
- Ability to successfully interact with the public and other governmental entities
- A passion for protecting California's environment
