What I liked
Working at Old Navy was my first job, I was warned by family and friends to never go into retail for my first job. I was expecting to have a bad experience at work but the friendly atmosphere that the managers and my fellow employees made me enjoy my job and make me excited to go to work.
What I wish was different
I was told I would be trained for the cashier position very shortly after I started work, I did not get trained until the end of summer which was a couple of months. I should have questioned my training earlier, this was mostly my problem of being shy.
Advice
Do not be shy when talking to management about training and questions, they are more than happy to hear your problems and to help you. Be prepared to do frustrating task that are caused by difficult customers.

What I liked
Enjoyed working in retail for the first time. My coworkers were very nice, and it was great to be surrounded by people my age. I really enjoyed helping people out in such a kind area.
What I wish was different
The management team was not the best. It was clear there was a lot of conflict between them. Some of the managers were/are great, some of them were/are not.
Advice
There's a lot more you need to learn than you would think. The job is very detail oriented, and it's important to always be friendly and kind to the customers and your coworkers.

I liked the environment and my coworkers. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, especially the managers. They treated us like equals and always made me feel welcome.
What I wish was different
I wish we had more people working during certain points when we'd have a rush.
Advice
Be aware of the current sales that are going on with the store. People will ask you about them, or you will be expected to mention them. Learn the prices of items and where they are. They continually change from day-to-day, so actively try to learn.

What I liked
I have made friends with my co-workers. The employee discount is 50%, which is amazing. I have been given raises every couple of months, and I have been given a leadership position.
What I wish was different
I wish the drive wasn't so far.
Advice
If you get into a job at Old Navy, I think it is worth it to stick around. A lot of people work summers and quit. Staying on payroll and working a couple of shifts helps the managers trust you as an employee and then your summer job for next year will already be lined up.
